    Updates to the site

Since my class ends today I will have time to tool around with this site over the next couple of weeks. I wanted to post here a few things I’m hoping to implement so I don’t forget and so people know that I’m actually doing things while I’m not posting (I also have a Twitter feed that gets updates frequently to let people know what I’m up to as well. Gotta love microblogging.)

    More after the jump.

    • making the comment portion of the blog more robust
      • adding the ability to “quote” other comments
      • highlighting my posts in the comments
      • adding a preview button for posts
    • working on a completely new theme for the site
      • adding original artwork to hopefully make the site look less sterile
      • (I’m not sterile)
      • working on a few site widgets which I think might be cool
    • adding more pages about things I’m into
    • hopefully adding a “review” section to the site
    • adding pages offering updates on current and past projects I work on (for posterity, mostly)

I also hope to finally get around to purchasing full versions of Ecto and Fetch since I am really lazy about that kind of stuff and I use these programs very often for this site.

Second to last, I’d like to know what people think of all of the links from my site being coded to open in a new window/tab rather than just letting people do that of their own volition. These things matter to me.

And finally I’d like to state that I will never be putting any ads on this site. I personally dislike ads on personal websites (I run the Firefox add-on AdBlock Plus & filterset.g when I browse), I think it looks tacky and takes away from the sites content, I also believe it’s the fastest way to get people away from your sites as I know when I see a bunch of ads on a blog or personal site I usually click out of the site within a minute. I’m not completely against ads though, I know they serve a vital purpose and I unblock sites I frequently visit (and I do click on the ads) because I figure that if I visit them enough I out to check out what they are promoting on their sites.

Thanks to everyone who checks out this site (I know it’s not too many people… or anyone that I don’t know personally) but I have gotten a few comments from people that have found my site through search engines (I’d really like an email on how new people have found this site; just email me at tyler (at) cythusly (dot) com, I don’t bite, promise) I hope to make this a neat site for people who actually care what this nerd has to say.

I’ve also played through Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rainslick Precipice of Darkness Episode 1 and I will post a review soon!

      Hello Tyler,

so this is how I found your site:

First I was bored, then I decided to use Google’s Blogsearch (http://www.google.com/blogsearch) , something I recently found out about. Then did some random searches (mostly about things I have i my bookmark-toolbar) and choosed “published -> past week. On page 3 when I searched for “Adblock Plus” I got to this place here.

I suppose not many people will do the same. :D

On topic of Adblock Plus: Even the developer of Adblock Plus recommends not to use Filterset.G (see here: http://adblockplus.org/en/faq_project#filterset.g). There is also a link to the other filterlists, I personally use EasyList, EasyElement and the ABP Tracking Filter. Give it a try, you won’t regret it. ;-)

Hey! It’s good to know I show up in any sort of search engine - even though it may be obscure!

Thanks for the link to the AdBlock Plus thing, I’m trying out a few subscriptions and so far I’m not noticing much of a difference from using Filterset.g. But if the devs say it’s not that great to use filterset.g with ABP I’ll do what I can to avoid it if it works!

Hope you found something worth reading here and that it brings you back.

Well, I’ve found a plugin to highlight my authors comments and it’s pretty easy to change simple things with CSS - but it’s not completely to my liking. Like it bolds my first line. Grrr.

I’ll keep working on this and see what I can come up with, at least I’m actually getting stuff done on this site, I probably should be out trying to get another job though.
