If anyone hasn’t seen this yet – check it out now!

I’m a fan of a lot of things that are outside the system or are independent in some way. I like indie record stores (now defunct Bionic Records in Huntington Beach, and BooBoo Records in SLO), indie webseries (Retarded Policeman, The Guild) and most of all indie games. They just do it for me.

After playing some of the larger independent games, like Penny Arcade’s “On The Rainslick Precipice Of Darkness” and having absolutely nothing bad to say about the experience, some of the smaller developed flash games like the amazing side-scroller flash version of Portal, and jumping in late on the Uplink bandwagon – I must say that I absolutely love games made by smaller companies. Sometimes just a couple of people, as with 2D Boy, and they come out with an original compelling game that I want to play.

I will definitely be picking it up to support people who have the drive to create something outside the system and the ability to make it as high quality as something made inside the system. I just can’t wait for the Mac version.

In one of the coolest promotional ideas I’ve seen to date, Penny-Arcade‘s Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins (better known as Gabe and Tycho, respectively) and PvPs Scott Kurtz teamed up with Wizards of the Coast in anticipation of the release of the 4th edition of Dungeons and Dragons to play a game – and they recorded the audio. You can either download it from the linked site or put the RSS URL into iTunes and have it download automatically every time it comes out!

While I was working on a project I listened to the podcast and was laughing my ass off, it was funny and very cool to listen to people with different levels of experience with pen and paper role playing games playing a game together, from naming their characters to the end of their first battle it’s laughs and smiles. I haven’t played much of D&D since 3rd Edition came out and none of the Revised 3rd Edition (that actually really made me angry that there were revisions like 6 months or a year after 3rd Edition came out… so bitter about spending money there) but I have played some Call of Cthulhu and SpyCraft, both very fun D20 games – but this makes me want to check out 4th Edition when it comes out, so I’d have to say that this podcasting of a campaign with the brains behind two of the internets largest and most successful webcomics worked out so very well.
